I have
no flying experience. Can I join one of your
courses?
Yes. Our courses are designed for someone who has
never flown before – so no experience is necessary.
I have some flying experience – can I get credit
for that?
Yes. Everyone's situation is different, and
therefore we need to have a look at your flying
experience on an individual basis. You can send
details of your flying experience to the College and
we will advise you as to what credit is available.
Can I wear glasses and still fly?
Yes – as long as your vision can be corrected to
near normal while wearing glasses then you can fly.
Is the theory very difficult to study?
Not really. It is not much more difficult than what
most people have studied in their “general science
”level at their 10th year of schooling. In a lot of
ways the theory is simple to study because it is
very much based on the practical flying – so it is
very relevant, and interesting.
What subjects are studied on the course?
Basic aeronautical knowledge, meteorology,
navigation, aerodynamics, flight planning,
performance and operations, human factors, flight
rules and air law, instrument rating theory.
What subjects should I have done at school?
It is generally suggested that you have completed
English, Maths and Physics, although these are not
mandatory subjects.
What is the minimum educational qualification
required to undertake the course?
We require you to have completed 12 years of
schooling to undertake the course. Most airlines
also generally require 12 years of schooling for
someone to apply to join them.
Can I apply for a course before I have finished
my schooling?
Yes. We have many students who apply while they are
still at school. Our courses fill quickly – so early
enrolment assures you of a place on the course.
What marks do I need at school to be able to join
the course?
There are no specific marks required if you have
completed 12 years of schooling. We always suggest
that you obtain the best results you can.
How old do I need to be?
You can start the course at 17 years of age – but
you must be at least 18 years of age to hold a
Commercial Pilot Licence.
You can apply to join our course when you are 17

thecourse of your choice. We regularly accept
applications one year in advance.
Are there any scholarships available?
No, there are no scholarships or financial aid
available. All students are self funded.
Can I obtain a loan for my course?
Yes – loans can be obtained to cover the costs of
your course. These loans must be obtained in your
home country, as they are not available to overseas
students in Australia.
Is there much homework required?
There is some homework required during the course –
but it is not a difficult workload. The
homework is designed to help you prepare for the
practical exercises that you have in the future,
plus to make you a better pilot.
Is accommodation available?
Yes. Basair Aviation College has accommodation
available at both our Bankstown & Cessnock campuses.
This can be in the form of a shared house, or an
individual room within an accommodation facility on
or near the airport.
Can I do the course faster than what is listed in
your prospectus?
The time period listed in our prospectus gives a
comfortable period in which to complete your course.
It makes allowances for holidays, delays due to
weather (rare – but they do occur) and other such
events. We will try to get you through the course in
the shortest possible time – but we want to make
sure you are a good pilot – and therefore we need to
have time to teach you all the skills and knowledge
required.
Is there an entrance exam?
No. We do not have a formal entrance exam.
Flying aeroplanes is more about common sense and
skills than how well you can sit a written exam. We
do have an online aptitude test that you can do
–which can give a basic outline as to your aptitude
for an aviation career.
How much should I allow for living expenses per
year in Australia?
You should allow approximately AUD$12,000 –
AUD$15,000 per year to cover your living expenses of
accommodation, food and transport.
